Australia-US Free Trade Agreement (AUSFTA)
Since January 2005, most US-manufactured goods qualify for 0% customs duty when imported into Australia. As of January 2022, ALL tariff lines under AUSFTA are duty-free for qualifying US goods. This means you typically only pay 10% GST on orders over AUD 1,000 — no additional customs duty on electronics, clothing, sporting goods, and most consumer products.
GST on Low-Value Goods
Since July 2018, overseas vendors registered with the ATO may collect 10% GST at the point of sale for goods under AUD 1,000. If GST was already collected by the seller, you won't be charged again at the border. If you're charged GST twice, request a refund from the seller.
