When shipping internationally, protecting your investment is vital. At Forwardme.com, we act as an intermediary to provide a tiered protection system. While major carriers provide a baseline of security, we facilitate access to independent third-party insurance that allows you to fully protect high-value shipments against loss, damage, or theft.
Standard Carrier Liability ($100 Included)
For shipments sent via FedEx, DHL, and UPS, the first $100 of your declared value is automatically covered by the carrier's standard liability at no extra cost to you.
- If your package is valued at $100 or less, you are protected by default.
- For packages valued above $100, we strongly recommend adding Forwardme Shipping Insurance to cover the remaining balance.
Forwardme Insurance Pricing
For shipments sent via major carriers like FedEx, DHL, and UPS, the first $100 of your declared value is typically covered by the carrier's standard liability at no extra cost. However, please note that insurance coverage may not be available for all shipments. Due to factors beyond our control—such as the specific carrier, the nature of the items being shipped, or the destination country—insurance cannot always be offered. Forwardme.com acts solely as an intermediary and has no influence over these carrier-specific or regional restrictions.
- Insurance Rate: $3.00 for every $100 of declared value.
- Minimum Fee: There is a minimum charge of $3.00 for any additional insurance purchased.
Example Calculations
To help you understand how the pricing works, here are two scenarios for FedEx/DHL/UPS shipments:
Scenario: Package Value is $350
- First $100: Covered for free by the carrier.
- Remaining $250: Insured by Forwardme.
- Your Cost: $9.00 ($3.00 x 3 units of $100 coverage).
- Total Protected Value: $350.
What is Covered?
Insurance provides a comprehensive safety net that standard carrier liability often lacks, including:
- Total Loss: If the package is lost during transit.
- Damage: If the items arrive broken or non-functional.
- Theft: Protection against "Porch Piracy" (stolen after delivery), subject to provider approval and timelines.
How to Add Insurance
You can opt-in for additional insurance during the shipment creation process in your Forwardme account. Simply enter the total value of your items, and our system will calculate the insurance fee based on the amount exceeding the standard carrier limit.
